INAUGURATION OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-2020

The Don Bosco Chinthanaloka, Institute of Philosophy and Humanities, at Ahungalla in Sri Lanka, celebrated the formal Inauguration of its new academic year 2020-2021 on 19th September 2020. The theme of the occasion was "I am making all things new" based on the Strenna of the Rector Major for 2021. The highlights of the day were the Eucharistic Celebration on the Holy Spirit presided over by our Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe of Galle and the Inaugural function presided over by Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Joseph Almeida SDB, the Provincial superior. Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Mauro Mantovani SDB, the Rector Magnificus of the Salesian Pontifical University, Rome, wished the gathering by a video conference and welcomed the students and the staff to begin the new academic year enthusiastically. He highlighted the future prospects of Don Bosco Chinthanaloka to be upgraded with affiliation status conferring the Bachelor Degree in Western Philosophy. The Keynote Address (Lectio Brevis) delivered on-line by Dr. Ela Lazarewicz of Cambridge University on the theme "Prophetic Art: Biblical Social Message in Contemporary Artwork". Fr. Provincial in his presidential address expressed his appreciation for the achievements of Chinthanaloka in the past years, and his hope for a brighter future with the qualification of our teaching faculty. The Chinthanaloka Choir rendered the musical version of "A Psalm of Life" written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and words and music by Lynn Shaw Bailey in four voices. The annual report of the Principal dwelt on the significant events of the past academic year 2019-2020. A day-long exhibition of traditional artistic woodcraft from the Museum of Ahungalla highlighting the cultural heritage of southern Sri Lanka added a special flavour to the events of this memorable day. It was an occasion for Don Bosco Chinthanaloka to count the blessings showered on our Institute form on high. May God be praised and all our benefactors and well-wishers be blessed!
