FIRST INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE ON CHRISTIAN STUDIES IN THE UNIVERSITY OF JAFFNA – SRI LANKA
On 7th and 8th of December 2018 the Second and Third year students had a great opportunity to participate in the “First International Research Conference on ‘Christian Studies,’” organized by the Department of Christian Civilization in collaboration with Centre of Performing Arts of the University of Jaffna. The conference embraced the prime aim of journeying ‘Towards a New Christian Humanistic Ethos.’ The conference became reality with the initiative of Rev. Dr. J. C. Paul Rohan, the head of the department of the Christian Civilization of the University of Jaffna. Rt. Revd. Dr. Justin B Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna and Rt. Revd. Dr. Immanuel Fernando, Bishop of Mannar were invited as the Chief Guests for the conference. Dr. John Lydon from the St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London gave the key note address: Concept of a New Christian Humanism in the Context of Education. Dr. David Fincham, the guest speaker spoke on The Christian humanism as a contested concept. There were many religious and lay scholars who were given the platform to present their own research papers. All the presentations were well delivered on various themes: Loss Memory and Hope; Christian Humanism, Tamil Christians, Religious Pluralism; Women’s Empowerment; Marginalization and Theologizing the Liberation Struggles; Mysticism & Humanism; Human person & Culture.
